NEWLY-APPOINTED MANAGING DIRECTOR
VITA PALADINO LAUNCHES OUTREACH PROGRAM TO MAKE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
ARCHIVES
MORE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC
Launches
Initiatives to Engage Public in Collecting and Preserving
Family Histories
BOSTON – Vita Paladino, newly-appointed
Managing Director of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research
Center at Boston University, has launched several initiatives,
beginning this fall, to engage the public in creating and
preserving their personal history.
“I want to turn the public onto
collecting their own family history and to make them aware
of the rich resources of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research
Center,” said Paladino. “The new series of
lectures and hands-on activities will explore the value and
excitement of building a personal archive for future generations.”
BOSTON CENTER
FOR ADULT EDUCATION
October 23, 2004
For the first time, Paladino is collaborating with the Boston
Center for Adult Education by offering two workshops on techniques
for preserving personal and family materials for future generations.
Entitled “Creating Your Legacy” and “Protecting
Your Legacy,” these classes will both be held at the
HGARC at Boston University on Saturday, October 23.
After the demonstration and informal talk, attendees will
be given a private tour of the impressive exhibitions in the
Center. Register online at www.bcae.org
or call 617-267-4430 for more information.
FRIENDS LECTURE
AND EXHIBITION SERIES
Beginning September 30, 2004
To further engage Bostonians, the Friends of the Libraries
of Boston University continue their rich history of sponsoring
lecture series and exhibitions of the Center collectees and
their work. On the fall schedule are best-selling author Peter
Benchley (author of the novel JAWS),
Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Philip Caputo,
and award-winning mystery writer Sue Grafton. Exhibitions
will be on display after each lecture, and will be open to
the public on the main floor of the Mugar Memorial Library,
beginning with an exhibition of Benchley’s personal
archive on September 30, 2004.
MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN FOR FRIENDS LECTURE
SERIES
Another first for the Center, a new membership campaign welcomes
the public to join the Friends. Friends are invited to hear
celebrities of stage and screen and the literary world whose
personal archives are in the Center. By broadening the outreach
for these events to include the general public, Paladino hopes
to introduce more members of the Boston community to the rich
resources in Boston University’s archives.
More information about the Center and
the Friends’ fall schedule can be found on their website:
www.bu.edu/archives.
