CENTER AND BOSTON BALLET
UNITE TO EXPLORE BALLET AND THE FUTURE OF DANCE:
AN EVENING WITH BOSTON BALLET ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

BOSTON – The Howard Gotlieb Archival
Research Center at Boston University and Boston Ballet present
INVITATION TO THE DANCE: An Evening
with Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen
at the Tsai Performance Center on February 23, 2005 at 7:00
p.m. Vita Paladino, Managing Director for the Gotlieb
Center, explains “We wanted to bring Mikko’s vibrant
energy here to Boston University. His enthusiasm and
passion for dance is infectious and has revitalized Boston
Ballet. Our students should be aware of the Company,
this important time in its history, and in the development
of dance today.”
As Artistic Director, Nissinen has been
responsible for bringing major choreographers to Boston, including
Ballet Master in Chief of New York City Ballet, Peter Martins
along with Jorma Elo, and Lucinda Childs.
The event on February 23 will feature
a discussion by Nissinen about the future of ballet and his
vision for Boston Ballet as well as a performance by Boston
Ballet dancers of selections from the Company’s dynamic
upcoming spring repertory program, FALLING
ANGELS. In conjunction with the event, the Gotlieb
Center presents INVITATION TO THE
DANCE, an exhibition showcasing a collection of photographs,
correspondence and memorabilia from the collections of Fred
Astaire, Gene Kelly, Dame Alicia Markova and others.
The event on February 23 is free and
open to all students, faculty, staff, and friends of Boston
University and Boston Ballet. Tickets are free but required;
contact the Tsai Performance Center Box Office at 617-353-8725
for ticket details. The exhibition will be open to the
public at the Mugar Library, 771 Commonwealth Avenue , beginning
February 24, 2005 for an extended run.
The Gotlieb Center houses the archives
of more than 2,000 contemporary figures.
Boston Ballet’s spring repertory
program, FALLING ANGELS features
work by three master choreographers including a world premiere
ballet by Lucinda Childs, William Forsythe’s In
the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, and two ballets by Jiří
Kylián—Sarabande and
Falling Angels. The Company premiere of Kylián’s
Sarabande marks the first
staging of the piece outside of Netherlands Dance Theater.
Tickets for FALLING ANGELS
are available to all Boston University students, faculty,
and staff for $15 and may be purchased in person at The Wang
Theater Box Office; please present your Boston University
ID at the time of purchase. This offer is limited to 2 tickets
per ID, subject to availability, not to be combined with any
other offer, and not valid on previously purchased tickets.
