Jonathan Alter: The Defining Moment
This small exhibition, JONATHAN ALTER: The Defining Moment, explores the career of the Newsweek editor and author. Included in the exhibition is a copy of The Washington Monthly, dated January 1981, carrying Alter's self-described "first real article" as a regular contributor. This is followed by several examples of Alter's more current work for Newsweek, reporting in the areas of politics, the media, and social issues. Representing the work in a less-polished state are pages from Mr. Alter's interview with Senator Sam Nunn, typed with Alter's handwritten notes, additions and corrections. A collection of various press passes distributed to Mr. Alter in his coverage of numerous events are also on display. The second half of the exhibition focuses on Mr. Alter's recent book: THE DEFINING MOMENT: FDR's Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope (2006). It includes a first edition copy of the book itself along with representative manuscript pages with Mr. Alter's hand written corrections and additions.
JONATHAN ALTER: The Defining Moment can be found on the first floor of Mugar Memorial Library at Boston University; 771 Commonwealth Avenue; and can be viewed during regular library hours. The exhibition is scheduled to run through the first week of October 2006.
