The chief aim of the Center for Archaeological Studies is the development and coordination of Boston University archaeological programs in education and research locally and worldwide. By involving archaeologists, scholars in other areas, and the public in its activities, the Center seeks to increase public awareness of the importance of understanding the cultures of the past and of preserving the world's cultural heritage. Located in the Stone Science Building on the campus of Boston University, the Center offers educational programs and lectures both for the academic community and for the general public, and publishes Context; a periodical devoted to archaeological reports and news of center activities. The Center and the Department of Archaeology jointly maintain extensive research facilities, including research and teaching laboratories, a reference library, study collections, archaeological project archives, computers, and photographic studio. Membership in the Center is open to all persons interested in the study of the past, whether professional scholars or the general public. Benefits of membership include a subscription to Context, the biennial periodical of the Center; study opportunities in the Boston area and abroad; invitations to various functions and events sponsored by the Center and the Department of Archaeology, including a series of lectures each year by archaeologists affiliated with the Center, along with distinguished guest speakers from across the United States and abroad.
If you would like more information about our services please contact the Center.
