C. Beaudry
Professor of Archaeology
and Anthropology
Director of Graduate Studies
Professor Mary Beaudry supervises graduate and undergraduate work
in historical archaeology. She is affiliated with the American
and
New England Studies Program, Preservation Studies Program, and
Metropolitan College Master of Liberal Arts Program in Gastronomy.
Professor
Beaudry served as President of the Society for Historical Archaeology
in 1989 and was the editor of Northeast Historical Archaeology,
the journal of the Council for Northeast Historical Archaeology,
from 1984 to 2001. She is Chair of the Awards Committee of the
Society for Historical Archaeology, a member of the steering
committee
for the Contemporary Historical Archaeology & Theory Group,
and a member of the editorial advisory boards of Post-Medieval
Archaeology, Vestigios: Revista Latinoamericana de Arqueologia
Historica,
and Cultural Landscapes.
Beaudry's chief areas of expertise are historical and industrial
archaeology
of the Americas and British Isles. Her research interests include
material culture studies; comparative colonialism; culture contact;
gender
and
equity
issues in archaeology; the archaeology of historical households
and homelots; documentary archaeology; landscape; ceramic analysis
and typologies; archaeological method and theory; ethics; and public
outreach. Her current field projects include investigations at
several historical home sites in Massachusetts and at the colonial
William Carr Estates at Little Bay, Montserrat, West Indies.
Professor
Beaudry has awarded three grants from the National
Endowment
for the
Humanities
for
historical
archaeological
research in Massachusetts; in 1994 and again in 2001 was
a National
Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at the Center for Advanced
Studies at the Winterthur Museum and Library in Winterthur, Delaware;
and 2006 she was the recipient of a Senior Fellowship from the
Boston University Humanities Foundation.
