Why study archaeology?
Students may come to Boston University specifically to study the subject: to conduct research directly with our faculty, to train in our laboratories and archaeological collections, and to participate in BU’s archaeological field research around the world. Other students may take an archaeology course and fall in love with the discipline. Archaeology offers tangible career benefits for those holding bachelor’s degrees or graduate degrees, including both the MA and the PhD. A large majority of our undergraduate alumni begin careers in archaeology following their time at BU, whether with employment working for state or federal agencies, private contract firms, or research centers, or whether embarking on graduate study at top-ranked universities around the world. Our graduate alumni go on to positions of leadership in public and private organizations and to faculty positions at leading universities in the US and abroad.
