Our Center investigators have extensive expertise in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of aphasia.

Gloria Waters – Boston University and David Caplan – Massachusetts General Hospital
Drs. Gloria Waters and David Caplan have studied assessment and diagnosis of patients with aphasia for more than 25 years. They have also developed language assessment tests to understand the underlying nature of language comprehension deficits in these patients.

Elizabeth Hoover – Boston University
Dr. Elizabeth Hoover’s research and practice focuses on adult neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders with a special emphasis on stroke, traumatic brain injury and Parkinson’s disease.

Swathi Kiran – Boston University
Dr. Swathi Kiran has worked on developing effective, new intervention techniques for patients with aphasia. She has shown that following brain damage, language recovery can progress in a predictable manner and that generalization to untrained stimuli/modalities can be an expected outcome of theoretically motivated rehabilitation protocols
