Positions at Boston University

Academic: The faculty hiring process at Boston University is individualized and varies among departments and schools. Prospective faculty seeking two academic appointments should contact Julie Sandell, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, at 617-358-5846 to discuss their situation further.

BU maintains listings of all open faculty positions on the Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus through Human Resources’s job board. The Medical Campus is located in Boston’s South End neighborhood, and a convenient shuttle bus service connects the two campuses.

Non-academic: All staff and administrative positions are posted on BU’s Human Resources website. Positions on the main Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus are listed here, and the Provost’s Office maintains a collaborative relationship with HR on both campuses. on.

Positions at Other Local Institutions

There are over 50 colleges and universities in the greater Boston area and even more throughout the New England region. HigherEdJobs is an excellent resource for browsing available faculty and staff positions in the Boston area and beyond.

Many of our neighboring institutions are some of the largest employers in the region. Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Boston College, Tufts University, and the University of Massachusetts Boston are some of the larger colleges and universities closest to us.

New England HERC

Boston University is a member of the New England chapter of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium, which supports the efforts of each of its member institutions to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, administrators, and staff through the sharing of information and resources. BU’s HERC membership allows us to facilitate connections with other local colleges and universities that can help with dual-career issues.

General Job Searches

Boston is at the center of a thriving metro area with a diverse economy, with particular strengths in the healthcare, financial services, and technology sectors. The Boston Globe maintains an online database of over 50,000 open positions in a variety of industries.

Boston’s hospitals and medical centers are some of its largest employers. Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are just a few of the city’s healthcare centers.

Companies headquartered in the Boston area include Liberty Mutual, Raytheon, TJX Companies, EMC Corporation, State Street, Boston Scientific, and Biogen Idec.

Relocating to Boston

Work/Life Resources

The Boston University Faculty Handbook covers the details of medical, parental, and personal leaves in its section on Leaves and Absences.

Human Resources maintains a website for those work/life benefits that they administer, including tuition benefits for family members, flexible spending accounts, employee discounts, and personal insurance plans.
