Arvo Pärt: Soundtrack of an Age

Arvo Pärt’s transcendent music is one of the defining soundworlds of the last thirty years.  Through media, concerts and recordings his work has crossed boundaries of religion, race and culture and established itself as one of the most popular and recognisable features of the contemporary musical landscape.  On September 24-5, 2010, the Southbank centre, and the Royal Academy of Music presented a conference in celebration of Arvo Pärt’s 75th Birthday. Papers  were presented on aspects of Pärt’s tintinnabuli works. They were interdisciplinary with a focus on musical analysis, hermeneutics, performance, media studies, theology and spirituality.
