Internship Opportunities

Definition: APC Interns engage in research relating to Africa’s political and economic development and other special projects as assigned. Additionally, interns assist staff with the daily operational activities of the Center. In their role as Research and Staff Assistants, Interns relate primarily to the APC Director and Staff.

  1. Responsibilities:
    • Conduct research related to special topics as assigned by staff
    • Gather data as requested by staff
    • Act as a resource about APC and its programs for the university community and general public
    • Assist in event preparation and execution
    • Liaise with other university offices and departments as necessary
    • General office and administrative functions including answering APC phones, making phone calls, responding to emails, maintaining office supplies, etc.
  2. Objectives:
    • The internship is designed to provide qualified undergraduate students with opportunities to gain insights into contemporary trends and developments in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as t o provide valuable work experience. In doing so, interns will have the opportunity to:
      • Complement academic interests through an increased understanding of African affairs and international relations
      • Develop professional capacity to contribute as a part of a team in a fast-paced office environment
      • Develop networking skills and professional contacts
      • Develop professional communication skills through daily interaction in the office, the University, and through phone and email correspondence
  3. Requirements:
    • Interest in African affairs
    • Knowledge of International Affairs
    • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate school program
