South Africa

The Republic of South Africa is located on the southern tip of Africa and is home to approximately forty-three million people. The people of South Africa elect members to Parliment, which consists of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces, every five years by popular vote. The National Assemby elects a president every five years. The president-elect appoints a cabinet. President Thabo Mbeki has served as chief of state and head of government since June 16, 1999.
