Mauritius

The Republic of Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean near southern Africa, and is home to approximately one million people. Every five years the people of Mauritius elect representatives to the National Assembly, Mauritius' legislative body. The National Assembly elects a president and vice president for five year terms. The president-elect appoints a prime minister, deputy prime minister, and a Council of Ministers. President Karl Offmann has served as chief of state since February 25, 2002.
