Mauritius
The Republic of
Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean near southern Africa,
and is home to approximately one million people. Every five
years the people of Mauritius elect representatives to the
National Assembly, Mauritius' legislative body. The National
Assembly elects a president and vice president for five year
terms. The president-elect appoints a prime minister, deputy
prime minister, and a Council of Ministers. President Karl
Offmann has served as chief of state since February 25, 2002.
