Focus and Resources

Africa and the APARC Mission

APARC focuses on thirteen Africain countries and the past and present leaders of those countries. Like the 13 colonies that drove the development of the United States and the Americas, there are 13 nation states in Africa that are leading the way in terms of Africa's development along democratic and free market lines. Those countries are as follows:

Video

Video highlights of the event at FleetBoston's downtown Boston headquarters on February 4, 2002, announcing a $1 million grant from the Balfour Foundation to launch a residency program that will bring former African presidents to the University beginning in September 2002. Boston University President Jon Westling and Ambassador Charles Stith accept the grant. The Balfour Foundation, which is administered by FleetBoston, promotes educational efforts that help underserved populations. Keynote Speaker Walter H. Kansteiner III, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, talks about promoting democracy in Africa and Western private investment on the continent are among his office's top priorities. Also, read the address by President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell at the AGOA Forum held by the State Department on October 29, 2001, or read the objectives for the Second US-Sub-Saharan Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum in January 2003. UNEP--The United Nations Environmental Program has sponsored a new website, African Environmental Outlook (AEO). The website is an ambitious effort to combine resources of six environmental agencies concerned with Africa to provide a clear and broadly conceived view of Africa's current environmental issues. AEO is not a database providing in-depth statistics or detailed policy analysis, but is an on-line test document that offers a valuable overview for non-specialists. For those interested in the politics of environmental politics in Africa the document, divided into topic and regionally oriented sections, indicates key stakeholders in environmental policy development.
