VERDEAN PRIME MINISTER JOSÉ MARIA NEVES TO SPEAK AT BOSTON
UNIVERSITY
(Boston, Mass.) – Prime Minister José Maria Neves of the Republic
of Cape Verde will speak during a breakfast held in his honor
at Boston University on Monday, October 6. Sponsored by the
African Presidential Archives and Research Center (APARC)
at Boston University, the breakfast will begin at 9:30 a.m.
and will be hosted by the Center’s director, Ambassador Charles
Stith. During his visit Prime Minister Neves hopes to strengthen
ties with the Boston-area Cape Verdean Community, as well
as further relationships with local business leaders.
Prime Minister Neves played a prominent role in Cape Verde’s
transition from a colonial state to a modern democratic state.
From 1996 to 2000, he served as representative of the opposition
party in the Parliament, remaining active in the consolidation
of democracy in Cape Verde. Elected president of the Partido
Africano da Independência de Cabo Verde (PAICV) in June 2000,
Prime Minister Neves led his Party to victory at the legislative
elections and was designated Prime Minister on February 1,
2001.
