Anthropology in the Works

Anthropology in the Works provides a forum for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and all others interested in anthropology; it is designed to enrich shared interests through films, seminars, lectures, social events, and outings. The unit also provides a social network and a support group to assist undergraduates with career information, study techniques, and advising.

Some of the sponsored activities and events have been: tours of the Mugar Library (with emphasis on the anthropology collection); the Museum of Science and the Museum of Fine Arts; ethnic tours of Boston including the South End, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, South Boston, ending in the North End, with an ethnic dinner at a popular local restaurant; several Happy Hours and International Pot Luck dinners; Grad Nite; a Halloween and a Christmas party; a reference bibliography; and a newsletter.

An anthropology faculty member and a graduate student act as advisors to the group. Although neither serve directly in the government, they provide direction, support, and advice. Anthropology in the Works includes a staff of coordinators with committees for Publicity, Functions, Academic Events, and Outings. New members are always welcomed (majors or non-majors) to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience, to assist in development, and to share in a well-balanced academic and social setting.
