Charles River Campus (LACF)
Laboratory Animal Care Facility has management and administrative authority regarding the procurement, housing, monitoring and use of animals on the CRC campus, all of whom are committed to the advancement of science in collaboration with the research community by promoting the humane care and use of animals used in research and teaching.
The LACF consists of three major facilities: an Aquatic Facility of approximately 1200 sq. ft, a Barrier Facility of approximately 1900 sq. ft., and a Non-Barrier Facility of approximately 3200 sq. ft. The LACF provides for the daily care of these animals, the majority of which are rodents. Use of the LACF is restricted to those who have an approved IACUC Animal User Protocol, and the appropriate training.
The LACF oversees veterinary medical care, animal care services, and actively participates in all facility design. Day-to-day care of animals and technical assistance are provided by approximately five animal caretakers. The animal care staff is overseen by an Assistant Manager and the LACF Director.
