Why participate in a Clinical Trial?
Whenever new treatments are tested in a clinical trial, it is expected they will be as good or better than the standard treatment. In order to determine this, the new treatment must be evaluated in groups of people that meet certain uniform requirements and using standard methods of analysis. Clinical trials develop new knowledge and provide important information to improve treatment of diseases. You may see a listing of our current clinical trials.
All proposed clinical trials are reviewed by Institutional Review Boards comprised of physicians, scientists, clergy, and lay people before being implemented. Participation in a clinical trial is voluntary and requires a signed consent from the patient or his/her legal guardian. Withdrawal from the trial is possible at any time. These trials are important because they provide researchers (doctors, nurses, and scientists) with information regarding the benefits, safety, and efficacy of proposed treatments. The Amyloid Program physicians provide patients with the benefits of their knowledge and expertise whether or not patients choose to participate in a trial.
