Acoustics and Vibrations

The Department boasts one of the country's largest concentrations of faculty (currently thirteen) engaged in acoustics and vibrations research. Our projects span length scales from nanometer MEMS transducers to 0.3 kilometer submarines, encompass techniques from asymptotic analysis to laser-Doppler velocimetry, and impact applications ranging from medical ultrasonics to mine countermeasures.

We maintain close ties with research groups throughout the world and collaborate locally with our colleagues in the College of Engineering. These include the hearing research group in Biomedical Engineering, the signal processing group in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and researchers in the BU Photonics Center.
