AME Awarded $1M Proposal Funded by Oak Ridge National Laboratory

The Spallation Neutron Source Facility

October 5, 2006

AME has been awarded a $1M proposal funded by Oak Ridge National Laboratory to work on cavitation mitigation in the Spallation Neutron Source Facility, which is a new multi-billion dollar national facility for generating very high fluence beams of pulsed neutrons. We are working on developing new technologies for enhancing the effectiveness and longevity of the facility through the a better understand (and control) of cavitation activity within the mercury-filled test chamber. The P.I.s on the grant are Associate Professors Robin Cleveland and R. Glynn Holt and Professor Ronald Roy.
