Background
David Essaff completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California Davis. Following this, he pursued a Masters of Science degree at UC Davis in exercise physiology, with an emphasis in respiratory mechanics, where he studied the effects of environmental pollutants on lung development and lung function in allergen sensitized monkeys. David has recently completed the graduate medical sciences program here at Boston University School of Medicine with plans to begin medical school. David joined the Alzheimer's disease Center at Boston University School of Medicine in April of 2006.
ADC Role
David serves as the project coordinator for the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), a 5-year multi-institutional study, to test whether serial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), other biological markers, and clinical and neuropsychological assessment can be combined to measure the progression of mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer's disease. This project is the most comprehensive effort to date to identify neuroimaging and other biomarkers of the cognitive changes associated with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
