Background
Dr. Scott Roberts completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Michigan in 1999. He then completed post-doctoral training in mental health services and clinical geropsychology, including a fellowship through the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He joined the Alzheimer's Disease Center in 2001, at which point he also became a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine. In addition to his activities at BU, Dr. Roberts serves as a support group leader in the Alzheimer's Association's Early Stage Program.
Research Interests
Dr. Roberts’ research interests are focused on psychosocial issues in Alzheimer’s disease. His interests include the psychological and behavioral impact of risk assessment for AD; cultural differences in attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge about AD; and psychosocial interventions for caregivers and early-stage patients.
ADC Role
At present, Dr. Roberts serves as Co-Director of the Education Core of the BU ADC. He is Co-PI on the REVEAL Study, a randomized clinical trial examining the impact of a genetic risk assessment program for AD. He is also the Principal Investigator of the ESP project, an evaluation of an education/support program for early-stage AD. He recently completed an Alzheimer’s Association funded study of illness perceptions among African American and White caregivers and relatives of people with AD.
Memberships
Dr. Roberts is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Gerontological Society of America.
