Background
Dr. Nair graduated from Jawaharlal Institute before completing a residency in neurology at Temple University and Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN under Dr. Ronald Peterson. Dr. Nair is faculty at Boston University School of Medicine where he is an Assistant Professor. He is a board certified neurologist who sees neurology patients at the Boston Medical Center and Weymouth sites.
Research Interests
Dr. Nair's research interests are in early and preclinical detection, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease, with special emphasis on MCI. Primarily he is a clinical trialist working with new drug treatments in AD. He also investigates genetics of Alzheimer's disease, with a special focus on genetic disclosure to at risk persons. He is also interested in Lewy body dementia, Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal dementia from a clinical perspective.
ADC Role
Dr. Nair is a clinical investigator of the NIA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Center. He is the PI for the DHA study which evaluates a new drug for Alzheimer's disease, derived from fish oil. Dr. Nair is also investigator for several other Alzheimer's disease drug treatment trials, including ADAPT, Flurizan and IVIG, in which new medications are being tested for preventing Alzheimer's disease. He is also an investigator in the HOPE study.
He is also involved with the REVEAL Study (Risk Evaluation and Education for Alzheimer's disease), a multi-center project funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute and the NIA to evaluate genetic risk assessment strategies for individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease by disclosing their APOE information.
He is also involved with the ADNI trial, which is
an NIH funded, 5 year observational study of mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease, by repeated imaging, biological markers and clinical assessments to measure the progression.
Awards/Memberships
Dr. Nair is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. He has also received various awards including Jawaharlal Nehru Foundation Scholarship, Indian Institute of Science Assistantship, Genesis Prize in Neural Networks and Computational Design,
National Talent Search Scholarship. He is also the recipient of the Helen Bader Foundation Memory Clinic Grant.
