Background
Dr. Mandell obtained his B.A. and M.D. from the University of Michigan. He completed his residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City then followed with a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the Boston Veterans Administration of the Boston University School of Medicine. He has remained on the faculty of BU. He is board certified in Neurology and is an attending physician at Boston Medical Center and at the Bedford (MA) Veterans Administration Medical Center .
Research Interests
Dr. Mandell’s research interest is dementia. He is particularly interested in unusual dementia syndrome but focuses his research time primarily on the study of Alzheimer’s disease.
ADC role
Dr. Mandell currently is an investigator for the Boston University HOPE study. He is also an investigator for a phase 3 multicenter, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study of the effect of daily treatment with the drug MPC-7869 on measures of cognitive and global function in subjects with mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer type.
Awards/Memberships
Dr. Mandell has twice been the recipient of the Teaching Excellence award from the Boston University Department of Neurology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Headache Society and American Neuropsychiatric Association.
