Background
Dr. Harvey completed her undergraduate nursing studies at Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing in Manitowoc, WI, and at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Biophysical Pathology in Higher Education from New York University and her Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Boston University. Dr. Harvey also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Services Research at the ENR Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA. Dr. Harvey has taught in the graduate nursing programs at Boston University and Boston College. She currently teaches a summer course in Aging and Illness at the Northeastern University School of Nursing.
Research Interests
Dr. Harvey’s current research interests include health literacy, health disparities, and health promotion and safety in the elderly and diverse cultures.
ADC Role
At present, Dr. Harvey is a member of the Center's Education and Information Transfer Core. She was a co-investigator of the REVEAL Project, in which researchers explored motivation for seeking genetic risk for AD in a subset from the first randomized controlled clinical trial to offer APOE testing. She served as Project Manager for the Veterans Home Study. She is currently conducting learner verification focus groups to complete the development of a culture and literacy appropriate home safety booklet for AD caregivers.
Awards /Memberships
Dr. Harvey is a past member of the Taxonomy committee of NANDA International, the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing.
