CONCERT STUDY: Dimebon Treatment Trial in Alzheimer's Disease

The Concert Study is a Phase 3, safety and efficacy study of 12 months of treatment of an investigational drug, Dimebon, for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Concert Study is taking place here at Boston University Medical Center, as well as at other national and international sites. Concert Study is sponsored by Medivation, Inc.

Dimebon is an oral medication that is being investigated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The study participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two doses of the Dimebon 5 mg or Dimebon 20 mg or the placebo. The study drug will be taken three times a day.

Who is eligible to participate?

Participants in Concert Study must:

  • Have mild to moderate AD
  • Should be 50 years of age or older
  • Have been taking Aricept (Donepezil) for at least six months
  • Have a caregiver who assists (or directly supervises) the patient at least five days per week for at least three hours a day
  • Living in the community and may be living in a assisted care facility if living independently

What happens in the visits?

Study participants are asked to:

  • Come for study related visits ten times during a one year period
  • Take study medications as directed by the study personnel
  • Complete all study related procedures

All study-related drugs and tests are paid for by the study. There are no costs to participants for being in the study.
