ADMIRE is a research study that examines the decision-making abilities of older adults with and without memory problems. This study seeks to determine whether memory or other cognitive skills are linked to one’s decisional capacity or ability to make decisions.
Who is eligible to participate?
- People who are at least 55 years old.
- People WITH memory complaints who have been diagnosed with “Alzheimer’s disease” or “Mild Cognitive Impairment.”
- People WITHOUT memory complaints.
- All participants must have a study partner (for example, a spouse or close friend), who will accompany them to the evaluation and complete questionnaires.
What happens at the visit?
- Study partners (for example, a spouse or close friend) will be asked to:
- Complete a brief paper and pencil measure of cognitive abilities and a language assessment,
- Complete questionnaires about the participants’ abilities to function around the house and make decisions, and
- Consider participation in a hypothetical (imaginary) research study, and respond to questions regarding their decision.
Where is the study taking place?
The study visit will take place in the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Boston University Medical Center. Parking in the Doctor’s Office Building garage at the hospital will be complimentary. However, if you are unable to come to Boston University Medical Center, a member of the research study will travel to your home to conduct the interview at a time convenient for you and your study partner.
