
Congratulations!
The ADC Pilot Grants Program recently announced
its awards for 2005. These one-year
grants provide $30,000 in direct costs to support
promising new investigators in AD research. Congratulations
to this year’s awardees:
- Dr. Maureen O’Connor, for a project entitled,
“The Effects of Exercise Training on Physical
and Cognitive Function in Community Dwelling
African Americans.”
- Dr. Angela Jefferson, for a project entitled, “Neurogenetics and Mild Cognitive
Impairment.”
NIH predoctoral trainee Dapo Akinleye of the ADC-sponsored
REVEAL Study will begin this Fall in
the doctoral program in epidemiology at the SUNY-Albany
School of Public Health.
ADC research nurse and study coordinator Patrick
Compton is graduating this summer with a master’s
degree from the BU School of Public Health, with a
concentration in environmental health.
ADC research assistant Veronica Santini will begin
medical school this Fall at the BU School of Medicine
(BUSM).
Dr. Scott Roberts has recently been appointed Co-Director of the ADC Education Core. He will work
with Core Co-Director Dr. Kathy Horvath to continue
to develop Center educational programs and
materials for both professionals and the lay public.
Welcome New Staff & Trainees
We are very excited to welcome Erin Whalen to our team as Associate Coordinator of the
HOPE study and research registry. Erin comes to us
from the MA chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association,
where she served for the past several years as Helpline
Coordinator, providing direct support to families
affected by AD.
We also offer a warm welcome to our new ADC staff
and trainees: Emily Gabriel, a master’s level student
at the BU School of Public Health; Michael Cassidy,
a medical student who has received a BUSM summer
research award to work with us; Marieke Meijer,
graduate student in psychology from the Netherlands;
Clarissa Segars, an undergraduate at Boston
College; Sarah Wong, an undergraduate at Tufts
University; and Emily Hubbard, a recent graduate
of Brown University.
