Boston Center for Memory
The Boston Center for Memory offers high-quality clinical care, but is not formally affiliated with Boston University.
Overview of Services
The Boston Center for Memory is a full-time clinic devoted to the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with concerns about their memory. The center is dedicated to providing patients a timely and thorough evaluation, an accurate diagnosis, and a treatment plan that meets each patient’s needs. The Center’s Medical Director, Dr. Andrew Budson, and Clinical Director, Dr. Paul Solomon, are internationally recognized experts in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias who guide the Center’s collaborative treatment approach combining neurology and neuropsychology.
The comprehensive diagnostic evaluation includes a neurocognitive assessment, a detailed history of memory concerns, as well as medical and neurological evaluations. Once a diagnosis has been made, treatment options are discussed with the patient and family. In addition to standard approved medications, the opportunity to participate in clinical trials of the latest advances in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease are available for most patients. The Boston Center for Memory will coordinate patient care with the patient’s primary care physician and other health care providers. Regular follow-up care is also provided, as are resource referrals to the Alzheimer’s Association and family support.
Free Memory Consultation/Memory Screens
As part of its service to the community, the Boston Center for Memory provides free memory screening. Early detection is crucial in providing the most effective treatment. There are over 100 causes of memory problems and a simple screening test may help to determine whether memory problems are due to dementia or other factors. The paper and pencil test takes approximately 20 minutes and is followed by a meeting with a clinician to discuss the results. Screenings are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis.
