As the nation moves forward with implementing the Affordable Care Act of 2010, opponents of the law have leveled charges of “rationing care” against some of the proposed reforms. Are these legitimate concerns grounded in reality or are they politically motivated fear tactics intended to confuse and incite voters?

In this session, Alan B. Cohen, ScD, Professor of Health Policy and Management and Executive Director of the Boston University Health Policy Institute, cuts through the media hype and political rhetoric to examine the various forms of rationing that already exist within the American health care system and how they relate to health care reform.

Enjoy specially prepared dishes relating to African culture in this eye-opening and stomach-satisfying Back to Class session. Jim McCann’s book Stirring the Pot offers a chronology of African cuisine, beginning in the sixteenth century and continuing from Africa’s original edible endowments to its globalization. He breaks new ground and makes clear the relationship between food and the culture, history, and national identity of Africans.
