When I began my freshman year at Boston University, I had no idea how I was going pay my tuition and school fees. My widowed mother helped as much as she could, but I was one of six children living at home. With the help of a small scholarship from my high school and a part-time job, I was able to make it through the first year. At the end of that year, I was fortunate to have been awarded an Augustus Howe Buck Scholarship, which paid for my full tuition.
The scholarship enabled me to enjoy the full spectrum of college life at Boston University, both academically and socially. I look back on my four years at BU as being some of the best years of my life. Although I lost touch with the University after graduation, while attending graduate school and law school, I never forgot the rich experiences I had while a student there.
I am pleased to be in a position to make a bequest to the College of Arts and Sciences, which I hope will enable a student at the University to enjoy the full benefits of a college education.
