Since the Beanpot first debuted in December of 1952, the four-team tournament for Boston’s men’s ice hockey bragging rights has grown into a quest for a highly sought-after Beanpot trophy held in front of enthusiastic crowds in annual sellouts. The tournament lasts two rounds, with first-round opponents rotated annually. The second round features the consolation game and the championship game. In addition to the tournament trophy, two individual awards are given out each year. The Eberly Trophy is earned by the goaltender with the highest save percentage who plays in both of his team’s games, while the Beanpot MVP is earned by the tournament’s overall most valuable player.
