Affinity Groups
BU is a big place, but you made it smaller with your own circles of fellow Terriers via student organizations, study-abroad programs, residence halls, and more. This year, we're creating special opportunities for you to rekindle relationships and affiliations that made your BU experience truly great!
All affinity-group parties will be held on Saturday, October 27. Times and prices vary. Locations TBA.
Band Alumni (2-4 p.m.; free)
Get together with old bandmates and new friends on the CFA Concert Hall stage for conversation and play. Feel free to bring your instruments, music, and band memories!
Black Alumni (3-5 p.m.; $15)
Join fellow black alumni and current student leaders at the Howard Thurman Center for a program celebrating a rich heritage and legacy at Boston University. Reconnect with friends and classmates as we explore past and present challenges facing black citizens as a community and as individuals—and discuss solutions. Then share memories and make new connections at a networking reception.
Boston Scholars (4-6 p.m.; $15)
Be inspired by the hard work and determination of a new generation of Boston Scholars as they recount their Boston University experiences and the changes the Scholars program has made in their lives. At a reception following their presentation, renew old friendships, network with fellow Scholars, and share your memories of the program with today’s students.
Core Curriculum Alumni (2-4 p.m.; free)
Join fellow Core alumni in the Core Curriculum offices to see old friends and celebrate the launch of the Encore alumni association at this reception with Dr. David Eckel and current Core Curriculum faculty and students.
Former Orientation Volunteers (2-4 p.m.; $15)
Student advisors, program assistants, and orientation leaders: come back to campus to mix and mingle with the crew you spent your college summers with, transitioning new classes into BU. This time there are no skits to rehearse, no rules to enforce, and no uniforms to wear—just partying to be done. Meet our current staff and help them make connections, just like you did back in the day.
Former RAs (3-5 p.m.; $15)
Come home for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and an exclusive look inside BU’s newest Student Village residence (“StuVi 2”), opening fall 2009. Reconnect with fellow RA alumni and current Residence Life staff, and see what the future has in store for residence life on campus.
Greek Alumni (3-5 p.m.; $20)
Join fellow Greek-life alumni for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at this reception celebrating the Greek traditions of leadership, scholarship, community service, and brother and sisterhood. Meet current fraternity and sorority members, reminisce with old friends, and share your memories of the Greek experience and the impact it has had on your life.
Overseas and Distance Education Programs Alumni (4-7 p.m.; $20)
Even if you’ve never set foot on our main campus, you’re a part of the BU community! Meet fellow Terriers and catch up with former classmates at this reception featuring remarks by NBC News correspondent and BU in Brussels graduate Tom Costello (MET’96).
ROTC Alumni and Veterans (2-5 p.m.; free)
All alumni are invited to attend this special recognition of the great service our alumni veterans and ROTC alumni have done for the United States through the Armed Forces. Following the tribute, connect with friends old and new as you explore the Departments of Military Science, Aerospace Studies, and Naval Studies, located on historic Bay State Road. Tours of the University’s new Virtual Rifle Range will leave at scheduled times during these open houses.
