For more than 20 years, approximately 42 deserving high school students from Western Massachusetts have received scholarship aid totaling nearly $71,000 from the Boston University Alumni Club of Western Massachusetts. Through the continued generosity of the Western Mass alumni community the club is able to award scholarships to three high school students attending Boston University. The University matches up to $1,500 during his or her second semester.

The procedure for selecting students for this award is to notify high school students and guidance departments in Western Massachusetts with letters and posters announcing the award. Students interested in the award receive application forms requesting specific information about academic, financial, and extracurricular and community activities, and future career plans. Then the club’s scholarship committee, comprised of 10 alumni club members, meet and select the recipients of the award. In June of each year the scholarship recipients attend a reception in their honor with their family and other alumni to present them with the award.

The Boston University Alumni Club of Western Massachusetts presents scholarships
each year to high school seniors from western Massachusetts who have been
accepted by a Boston University school or college. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and financial need.
