Tribeca
Film Fest. May 2002
Boston
University's Tribeca Film reception drew a crowd of 175
alumni and friends for a wonderful evening celebrating our
alumni and student contributions to the film and television
industry. The event was co-hosted by CFA Dean Jeffrey Babcock
and COM Dean Brent Baker, who brought together a stellar
host committee chaired by Stewart Lane, CFA'73, and Mary
Ann Milano, CFA'66. Held on the eve of the film festival,
it was our answer to Robert DeNiro's call for help in revitalizing
Lower Manhattan. In addition to bringing some $25,000 of
economic relief to the area, the University partnered with
festival organizers by providing much needed volunteer support
through alumni and students. We were proud to have two student
films selected for entry into the festival, Eli Sentman's
Beautiful Night and Jennifer Campbell's NINE, along with
our alumnus Albert Maysles, GRS'53 MA, featured as a panelist
at the special seminar entitled, "Tell Me the Truth:What
Defines Documentary?"
By
all accounts, the Tribeca Film Festival surpassed all expectations.
Ticket sales were twice what was anticipated, about 30,000,
and attendance to Tribeca topped 100,000, leading festival
founder DeNiro to call it "amazing." Boston University
was proud to host this event in support of the festival
and we look forward to further collaboration for next year.
