Carolyn (Garrett) Cline (COM’70) of Arcadia, Calif., retired on disability as an associate professor at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication School of Journalism. Carolyn was the primary author and researcher of The Velvet Ghetto: The Impact of the Increasing Percentage of Women in Public Relations and Business Communications (ABC Research Foundation, 1985). She was a leader in establishing the multimillion-dollar NSF Integrated Media Studies Center at USC. She is married to Michael Cline and has one daughter, Victoria. Her daughter Dana passed away.

Jane Goldberg (DGE’68, CAS’70) of New York, N.Y., recently published Shoot Me While I’m Happy: Memories from the Tap Goddess of the Lower East Side (Woodshed Productions, 2008). Part memoir, part essay, the book explores the world of tap dance. Jane’s connection to tap comes from years of performing and talking with dancers such as Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis, Jr., Savion Glover, and Ginger Rogers. Visit www.janegoldberg.org.

Howard Altarescu (SMG’70, LAW’74) of Chappaqua, N.Y., returned to the practice of law after 25 years as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. Howard is a partner in the New York office of Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe. He also is chair of the board of Renaissance E.M.S. (Education, Music, and Sports), a nonprofit organization in the South Bronx that provides performance-based music classes, sports programming, academic enrichment, and social development programs to at-risk youths. Deborah (Brown) Lisi (SON’71) of East Greenwich, R.I., is performance improvement coordinator for the Comprehensive Community Action Program of Family Health Services, where she has worked since 2004. She is also the CCAP coordinator for the Rhode Island Chronic Care Collaborative and the National Health Disparities Collaborative and is adjunct instructor at the New England Institute of Technology. Kathleen Aguero (GRS’73) of Cambridge, Mass., published Investigations: The Mystery of the Girl Sleuth (Cervena Barva Press, 2008). Celebrating the fictional sleuth Nancy Drew, the book “investigates, critiques, and updates the character” through a collection of poems.

Janet Chapman (COM’73) of Tijeras, N.M., coauthored the biography Kenneth Milton Chapman: A Life Dedicated to Indian Arts and Artists (University of New Mexico Press, 2008).

Peri Schwartz (CFA’73) of New Rochelle, N.Y., showed her artwork in a solo exhibition at the Hillwood Art Museum in Brookville, N.Y., last June. Her work is in museum collections in the United States and abroad. Visit www.perischwartz.com.

Donna Rossetti-Bailey (CFA’74) of Marshfield, Mass., received the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod Award in the New Hampshire National Pastel Show for her painting The View.

Ellen Davis Sullivan (LAW’77) of Andover, Mass., won third place for her short story “Yiddish Land” in a contest sponsored by the Karma Foundation and Moment, the world’s largest independent Jewish magazine. The piece was published in the November/December issue of Moment and honored at a reception in New York in December.

Judy Carlough (COM’78) of Londonderry, N.H., published her first book and audio recording, Building the Champion Mindset (2008), which uses techniques from world-class athletes and coaches to help people overcome the mental blocks that hold them back. Michael Crawford (GRS’78) of Fairfax, Va., was awarded the 2008 Samuel Eliot Morison Award by the U.S.S. Constitution Museum for his scholarship, patriotic pride, and interest in the sea and all things maritime. He and two other historians make up a team of scholars at the U.S. Naval Historical Center in Washington, D.C. Michael is the coauthor and editor of Interpreting Old Ironsides: An Illustrated Guide to the U.S.S. Constitution(Department of the Navy, 2007) as well as the multivolume series The Naval War of 1812: A Documentary History (U.S. Government Printing Office, 2003) and Against All Odds: U.S. Sailors in the War of 1812 (Diane Publishing Company, 2004).

Ronald Peterson (COM’78) of Westland, Mich., recently completed a novel, A Time To . . ., which chronicles four spiritual milestones in a man’s life. He writes that the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were the catalyst for his reflections.
