Elad Granot (MET’00) of Amherst, Mass., successfully defended his doctoral thesis  “Revealing Victoria’s Secret: A Hermeneutic Exploration of Female New Luxury Consumers,” on March 31, 2006. Enrico “Jack” Villamaino III (CAS’00) of East Longmeadow, Mass., will run as a Republican for the Massachusetts Senate from the First Hampden and Hampshire district. He has been an aide for two years to Senate Minority Leader Brian P. Lees, who is stepping down. Jack hopes to succeed him.

Seth Barnett (SMG’01) of Brookline, Mass., married Jennifer Hurley on May 27, 2006, on Cape Cod. Todd Kohn (SMG’01), Andrew Wamsley (CAS’01), and Jeffrey Halusic (SAR’01,’04) were groomsmen. Elisabeth Hurley (CAS’05, CGS’03) was the maid of honor, and Sara Bosworth (MET’05) and Marcella Szalai (LAW’03) were bridesmaids. Joanna Franco (COM’01) of Vienna, Va., earned a master’s in musical theater from Boston Conservatory in 2006 to go along with her master’s in journalism from BU. “I have become overqualified and underqualified to work!” she writes. “Ideally, I’d like to write and perform and cut an album! And write a book! Maybe do some sketch comedy, too. One day …” As a reporter for the Connections Newspapers in northern Virginia, Joanna received a third place award for health, science, and environmental writing from the Virginia Press Association in 2003.

Meera Namjoshi Gonzalez (SAR’01) and Raymond Gonzalez (CAS’01) of Elkins Park, Pa., were married in Norristown, Pa., on August 6, 2005. Sara (Stone) Hefez (COM’01, CGS’99) of Mansfield, Mass., married Nathan Hefez on May 30, 2004, at Temple Israel in Sharon, Mass. She is the New England zone campaign executive for the Jewish National Fund and this year helped the Boston office raise more than $2.2 million for the land and people of Israel. Erica M. Manczuk (COM’01) of Dorchester, Mass., is the media relations manager at Cambridge Health Alliance. Previously, she was in the feature film development division of 20th Century Fox in Los Angeles, where she worked on such Hollywood films as Fever Pitch and In Her Shoes. Erica has also worked for Tufts Medical School, New England Medical Center, and WHDH-TV Channel 7 in Boston.

Shauna Miles (CFA’01) of Rockville Centre, N.Y., appeared in the Vital Theatre Company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in New York City last January. Sam Swartz (CFA’96) led the “Fairy Band” on tuba. Shauna’s other acting credits include The Duchess of Malfi with Kings County Shakespeare Company in Brooklyn, No. 11 (Blue & White) with the Play Company in New York City, and The Amen Corner with the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston.

Fernando Hyon Serna, Jr., (SAR’01, MED’06) of Portsmouth, N.H., received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the School of Medicine in May. After completing a residency in orthopedic surgery, Fernando hopes to complete a fellowship and pursue a career in academic orthopedic surgery.

Melissa Wolfe (COM’01) of Los Angeles, Calif., sold an animated property to Nickelodeon Networks. “All the years of watching Ren and Stimpy finally paid off!” she writes. She is a series development executive at Frederator Studios and works closely with Nickelodeon to produce 39 animated shorts that will air on Nick in 2007. She is responsible for strategic and financial management for states, municipalities, schools, and union business. Megan (Cartwright) Voll (CAS’03, CGS’01) of Pittsburgh, Pa., received a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Chatham College in Pittsburgh. She works in the hematology-oncology department at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she counsels children newly diagnosed with cancer who have mild to severe depression and their parents. Jason Ryan (MET’03) of Quincy, Mass., a medical resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, wrote an essay that won an Elsevier Medical Information Can … Award. Elsevier, a global health-care and scientific publisher, presents the awards to dedicated medical students and residents who are improving global point-of-care medicine. Jason’s essay addressed the critical link between access to medical information and improving patient quality of life.

Arthur Wong (GSM’03) and Haejin In (GSM’03) of Jamaica Plain, Mass., were married on September 10, 2005, in Seoul, South Korea. Davis Seelig (COM’97) of Fort Collins, Colo., is in a veterinary pathology residency and Ph.D. program at Colorado State University. After returning to Boston for the first time in years, he writes, “I had to swallow twice as I saw the face-lift that poor Kenmore Square is suffering through. Erin Wilson (GSM’05) of Boston, Mass., received the Young Alumni Award from the University of Vermont Alumni Association on June 3, 2006, in recognition of outstanding volunteer service to the University of Vermont and its alumni association. Erin is a client service manager in the corporate communications group for Bose Corporation in Framingham, Mass.

Christian Rogerson (MET’06) of Saint George, Kans., is a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was on temporary duty at Fort Meade Maryland through July, after which he was scheduled to return to his duty station of Fort Riley, Kans. He will be eligible to retire with 23 years of service in September 2009. He and his wife enjoyed attending Commencement — Christian earned a master’s in criminal justice — and the 92nd BU Night at the Pops last May.
