Wendy Capria Bishop (SMG’00) of East Brunswick, N.J., married Brad Bishop on August 27, 2005. Lauren Zlotnick (SED’00) and Hillary Soffer (SED’00) were in the bridal party. Zayd Dohrn (GRS’00) of Chicago, Ill., staged his most recent play, Permanent Whole Life, at the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre in November 2005. This black comedy of manners is Zayd’s third major play, following Shameless, which was a Boston Globe “critic’s pick” in 2002, and Haymarket, his 2004 production debut at the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Zayd is an M.F.A. student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in New York City.

Nicol Lally (COM’00) of Davenport, Iowa, and Jason Tapp (CAS’02), of Kelowna, Canada, announce their engagement. They plan to marry at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel in August.

Barry G. Leff (SMG’00) and Amy Goldschmitt (SED’98) of Vail, Colo., were married on September 25, 2005, in Atlanta, Ga. Several Chi Phi brothers and fellow alumni attended the festivities.

Brian Clay Luedloff (CFA’00) of Wentzville, Mo., is director of opera theater for the University of Northern Colorado’s College of Performing and Visual Arts, where he is directing The Bartered Bride. In March, he returns to the Connecticut Opera to direct Cavalleria Rusticana and Gianni Schicci.

Peter Campion (GRS’01) of Berkeley, Calif., has published his first collection of poems, Other People (University of Chicago Press, 2005). Peter is a Jones Lecturer in poetry at Stanford University and a recipient of the Wallace Stegner Fellowship in poetry. He has also written a book on the art of Mitchell Johnson.

David Dines (CAS’01) of Half Moon Bay, Calif., married Jennifer Westervelt on August 5, 2005, at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Mass. Tyler Brezler (UNI’02) officiated at the service.

Wesley Eberle (CAS’01) of Boston, Mass., is associate director at O’Neill and Associates, a communications firm. Wesley is active in the community; his pro-bono clients include the Somerville Homeless Coalition and the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy. Previously, he worked for Boston 2004, where he coordinated media relations in preparation for the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Liz Newell Modena (COM’01) and Eric Modena (COM’01) of Forest Hills, N.Y., were married on October 16, 2005, in Massapequa, N.Y. Alumni attending included Neal Block (COM’01), Concetta Ceriello (COM’01), Ryan Clark (COM’01), Jill Gold (COM’00), Ellen Teitel (COM’00, CGS’98), and Leslie Williams (COM’01). Liz is the coordinating producer for Teen Kids News at Alan Weiss Productions. Eric is the head of postproduction at Snapfilms and recently completed work for Jack’s Big Music Show on Noggin.

Alex Merkin (COM’01) of New York, N.Y., wrote, directed, and edited a new short film, Across the Hall, which stars Adrian Grenier of HBO’s Entourage. The film is being distributed by First Look Media and Samsung Mobile. Alex collaborated with Evan Ferrante (CAS’02), who produced the project, Scott Roberts (CAS’99, CGS’97), who was supervising producer, and Timothy Johnson (COM’00), who was the associate producer. “I’ve worked with all three regularly over the past four years on film, music video, and commercial-related projects at our production company, Fivelion Productions, in New York City,” Alex writes.

Sarju S. Shah (CAS’01, SPH’04,’05) of Berlin, Conn., has been named to the Governor’s Commission on Community Service by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Since 2004 Sarju has worked at the DPH as the grant development coordinator in the contracts and grant management section. Sarju teaches Indian cultural heritage and religion to young people, edits the Hindu Students’ Council magazine, Samskar, and is a member of Sneha, a network of women of South Asian origin.

Haralambos Ventis (STH’01) of Athens, Greece, published a book, The Reductive Veil: Post-Kantian Non-Representationalism Versus Apophatic Realism (Epektasis Publications, 2005). The book, with a foreword by Robert C. Neville, dean of Marsh Chapel, discusses how issues in the contemporary philosophy of language and political liberalism affect Christian theology. “Mainly I am interested in promoting a socially liberal, but doctrinally traditional, theological perspective,” Haralambos writes, “exploring how Christian eschatology can help broaden the Church’s understanding of inclusiveness and catholicity, as an antidote to sectarianism, bigotry, and exclusion.” Haralambos received his Ph.D. from the Catholic University of Leuven, Institute of Philosophy, and says he is “missing Boston (and BU) terribly.”

Roger Wong (SHA’01) of Stoneham, Mass., founded Boston Young Active Hands, a program that connects youth and families with volunteer opportunities. Amanda Bass Zubek (CAS’01) of Chicago, Ill., married Richard Zubek on October 22, 2005. Alumni at the wedding were bridesmaid Laura Gerety (CAS’02, SMG’02) and Megan Barber (SAR’01,’03). Amanda and Richard spent their honeymoon in Paris. Amanda ran her first marathon, the Chicago LaSalle Bank Marathon, on October 9.

John DeSimone (LAW’02) of Wenham, Mass., joined the law firm Metaxas, Norman & Pidgeon as a senior associate. Previously, John had his own law firm and practiced at the Cummings Center in Beverly.

Jesse  Horner (COM’03) of Antratsyt, Ukraine, is a youth development volunteer in the Peace Corps. He lives in a small city in the eastern coal-mining region of Ukraine.
