Deborah Cannarella (CAS’80) of Roxbury, Conn., published Beading for the Soul: Inspired Designs from 23 Contemporary Artists (Interweave Press, 2005), a collection of projects inspired by myth, religious symbolism, and personal spirituality. Deborah is one of the founding editors of Threads, a magazine for sewing enthusiasts, and former editor of PieceWork, a magazine celebrating historic and ethnic fabric-related handicrafts. She has been involved in crafting for more than 20 years and has written several historical biographies for children.

Wes Eichenwald (COM’80,’82) of Austin, Tex., and his wife, Donna, became the parents of twin boys, Luka Mathias and Leo Kiefer, on February 7, 2005. Wes writes, “After five happy years living and working in the Republic of Slovenia, meeting Donna was the only thing that could have brought me back to the States!” They run Wordbucket Marketing Communications, which specializes in all types of writing and design work. Roberta Feather (SED’80) of Providence, R.I., is on the board of the Providence Center, a community-based outpatient behavioral health organization. Roberta has worked as a psychiatric nurse for over 40 years and is an associate professor of nursing at the University of Rhode Island. She also volunteers in numerous community and political organizations in Providence.

Eleanor Fedde Grant (CFA’80) of West Lafayette, Ind., is interning with the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine as a medical-scientific artist, a 30-year aspiration. Nancy Mehlem (SED’80) of Boston, Mass., is the director of district relationships and teacher education for Lesley University’s National Programs. Previously, she was an associate dean in Lesley’s School of Education.

Louis Porter II (COM’80) of Minneapolis, Minn., is the outreach program manager at NorthWay Community Trust, an organization dedicated to reducing poverty in north Minneapolis. Louis, who also teaches writing and communication courses in the Minnesota state university and college system, received an award for his short story “Reminders” in Ebony magazine’s Gertrude Johnson Williams literary competition. Candida Fink (CAS’82, MED’87) of New Rochelle, N.Y., a board-certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist in private practice, is coauthor of Bipolar Disorder for Dummies (Wiley, 2005), a guide that explains the brain chemistry behind the disease, as well as the latest medications and therapies.

Charles Hagner (CAS’82, COM’82) of Shorewood, Wis., is editor-in-chief of Birder’s World magazine, a bimonthly publication about wild birds and birdwatching. He recently published his first book, Wings of Spring (Stackpole Books, 2006), about the lives of birds living in the wilds of the western hemisphere. Amelia Klein (SED’83) of Needham, Mass., edited Humor in Children’s Lives: A Guidebook for Practitioners (Praeger, 2005), a collection of articles by professional therapists, educators, and child development specialists and others who use humor in their work with children.

Joseph F. Bermudez (CAS’85, CGS’83) of Denver, Colo., an attorney at Cozen O’Connor, and his colleagues led two seminars on claims-handling ethics at the Zurich North America Care Center in Colorado Springs last November. Joseph, whose practice is concentrated on insurance coverage matters, also handles complex commercial disputes and has litigated cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Janet Cappiello Blake (COM’85) of Crestwood, Ky., is working on a master’s degree in library and information science at the University of Kentucky. She is the public services and outreach librarian at Kentucky’s Oldham County Public Library. Janet lives with her husband, Dan, business editor at the Courier-Journal in Louisville, and her two daughters.

Paseltiner (CAS’85) of Great Neck, N.Y., a partner with the law firm Jaspan Schlesinger Hoffman, has been named chairman of the board for the Education and Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit agency that protects children and promotes healthy families and communities. David is the vice president of the board of directors of the Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank. He lives with his wife and two children.

Monica Reinagel (CFA’85) of Baltimore, Md., published The Inflammation Free Diet Plan: The Scientific Way to Lose Weight, Banish Pain, Prevent Disease, and Slow Aging (McGraw-Hill, 2006). The book, which rates the inflammatory or anti-inflammatory effects of foods, includes recipes and meal plans.

Johanna Rothman (ENG’85) of Arlington, Mass., coauthored Behind Closed Doors: Secrets of Great Management (Pragmatic Bookshelf, 2005), which offers practical advice on various aspects of management through the story of Sam, a fictional business manager new to his job.

Cynthia Sughrue (CAS’85) of Glasgow, Scotland, is executive producer at the Scottish Ballet. Previously, she was general manager of Dance Base, Scotland’s National Centre for Dance in Edinburgh, and head of dance at the Scottish Arts Council. Kenneth S. Butensky (CAS’86, CGS’84) of Philadelphia, Pa., and his wife, Melanie, have welcomed a new daughter, Julia Ling. Ken is divisional deputy city solicitor in the city of Philadelphia Law Department and general counsel to the city’s Board of Licenses and Inspections.

James F. David Penkala (COM’86) of Plymouth, Mass., is senior director of customer insights at Aramark Healthcare Management Services. David writes, “What started as a freelance job that parlayed my experience as a BU Dining Services student manager at Warren Towers, along with everything I learned from the great professors at COM, has turned into a fantastic 15-year marketing career.” He and his wife, Donna Conley (COM’86), an attorney specializing in labor law, recently moved to a new home in Plymouth. Pamela Michele Sugg (SSW’86) of Branford, Conn., is a sex therapist certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists; she is cochair for the 2006 and 2007 AASECT national conferences. Sarah Kashin Klein (CFA’90) of Be’er Sheva, Israel, announces the birth of her fourth child (and third boy), Azriel Yosef, on September 28, 2005.
