To
serve the students of the future, we must move to a new building,
with the increased space and technological capabilities vital
to our expanding numbers and activities.
Boston
University has undertaken a capital campaign, initiated by
the generous gift of two alumni of Boston University Hillel,
Irwin Chafetz (CAS'58) and Leonard Florence (SMG'54, Hon.'01).
The Florence and Chafetz Hillel House will be constructed
on Bay State Road one block east of the present building,
at the heart of the Charles River Campus, where it will be
an inviting center of social, cultural, and religious activity
for many decades to come.
At
thirty five thousand square feet, the Florence and Chafetz
Hillel House will be spacious, inviting and flexible. Facilities
will include:
- A
first-floor lounge
- Dining
rooms
- Two
kosher kitchens
- An
auditorium
- Meeting
and conference rooms
- Offices
- Areas
for large events
- Conservative,
Orthodox, and Reform chapels
Our Jewish tradition teaches us that there is always a place
for one more person around the Sabbath table. At Hillel, our
goal is to promise a place to every Jewish student at Boston
University. With the Florence and Chafetz Hillel House, we
will be able to honor that promise for generations to come.
