Campaign Update

November 23, 2003

As construction of the new Florence and Chafetz Hillel House at Boston University approached the half-way mark at the end of November, 200 students, alumni, supporters, faculty and other friends gathered to celebrate the achievement.

Naming-donor Irwin Chafetz (CAS'58) described how building BU's new 35,000 sq. ft. Hillel House "is probably the most important thing (he has) ever done" in a long and successful career of business and philanthropic ventures. Chafetz also praised the untiring generosity of his fellow naming-donor, Leonard Florence (SMG'54), whom he credited with originally involving him in the project.

Following a brief ceremony at the construction site, a brunch with live jazz was held inside the current Hillel House. A banner that will be interred in a time-capsule in the new building, was also signed by everyone present. The Florence and Chafetz Hillel House will open its doors in September 2004.

We invite you to visit the site at 213 Bay State Road and check back to our Campaign Update page for updated galleries.
