Campaign Update

May 20, 2002

Over 250 attendees celebrated the silver-shovel groundbreaking for the new Florence & Chafetz Hillel House together with honorees Lenny Florence (SMG'54) and Irwin Chafetz (CAS'58). Well-known philanthropist, Edgar M. Bronfman was the keynote speaker. Other key participants included Richard M. Joel, Hillel international director; Oscar Wasserman (LAW'59), president of BU Hillel Board of Directors; Harold W. Schwartz (SMG'68), national campaign chairman; Chancellor John Silber; Rabbi Joseph Polak; and Donna Kalikow, Hillel building and design committee chair. Construction is expected to commence in winter 2003.
