BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW (BU LAW) is a worldwide community of prominent legal scholars, teachers, students, and alumni (more than 20,000 in fifty states and forty-five countries) dedicated to providing the finest legal education in the nation. Since opening our doors in 1872, BU LAW has welcomed qualified men and women without regard to race, national origin, background, or belief. Our founding principle that legal education should be open to all qualified applicants and should emphasize theory, analysis, and practical applications still drives our mission today.

One of the first law schools in the Boston area, BU LAW is nationally ranked as a top-25 school (#21 in US News & World Report, 2009) and consistently enrolls well-rounded students with outstanding undergraduate grades and LSAT scores. Students are challenged by a rigorous curriculum and a wide range of courses in a highly supportive learning environment.

BU LAW professors consistently rank among the nation’s elite faculty. The latest Princeton Review Best 117 Law Schools ranked BU LAW’s faculty first in the nation, praising BU LAW professors for their accessibility and their ability to teach fun, interesting, and original classes. One student is quoted as saying that professors are so accessible that the School feels like a “small liberal arts school.” According to another, “Some days [the class] is crying from laughing so hard.”

Attracting and retaining the best professors is not easy, however. BU LAW has a clear advantage because of its academic reputation, high-quality students, location in the heart of Boston, and prestige. But with other top schools often recruiting from the same pool of faculty candidates and courting our current faculty, we must stay ahead of the compensation-and-benefits curve—and that requires resources.

The School of Law makes its yearly appeal to all alumni for support through the BU LAW Fund. The LAW Fund provides unrestricted funds, which can be used to meet the School’s immediate needs for its operations, including financial aid, the Public Interest Project, the Loan Repayment Assistance Program, and faculty recruitment and retention.

Your contributions to the BU LAW Fund will help maintain the high quality of education for which we are known. Thank you again for your support.
