BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW (BU LAW) is a worldwide community of prominent legal scholars, teachers, students, and alumni (more than 20,000 in fifty states and forty-five countries) dedicated to providing the finest legal education in the nation. Since opening its doors in 1872, BU LAW has welcomed qualified men and women without regard to race, national origin, or belief. The School’s founding principle—that legal education should be open to all qualified applicants and emphasize theory, analysis, and practical applications—is still upheld today.
One of the first law schools in the Boston area and consistently ranked in the top 25 by US News and World Report, BU LAW currently joins Yale Law and Harvard Law as one of only three New England law schools ranked in the country’s top twenty.BU LAW consistently enrolls well-rounded students with outstanding undergraduate grades (median GPA of 3.68) and test scores (average LSAT score of 165). Students are academically challenged by a rigorous curriculum and a wide range of courses in a highly supportive learning environment.
The School’s professors consistently rank among the elite faculty in the nation. The latest Princeton Review Best 117 Law Schools ranked BU LAW’s faculty second in the nation—ahead of all local competition. BU LAW professors were praised for their accessibility and ability to teach fun, interesting, and original classes. One student was quoted as saying that professors are so accessible, the School feels like a “small liberal arts school.” According to another, “Some days [the class] is crying from laughing so hard.”
Attracting and retaining the best professors is not easy. BU LAW has a clear advantage because of its academic reputation, high-quality students, and location in the heart of Boston. But with other top schools often recruiting the same faculty candidates and courting its current faculty, BU LAW must stay ahead of the compensation and benefits curve. And that requires resources.
The Law Fund supplements the School’s operating budget, providing the School with the resources it requires to remain competitive. Unlike restricted gifts, your Law Fund donation provides support that can be used to meet the most immediate day-to-day needs of the School, including, but not limited to: faculty recruitment and retention, financial aid, moot court, student organizations and journals, the Public Interest Project, the Loan Repayment Assistance Program, library and computer resources, and facilities maintenance and renovation.
The BU Law Fund has grown dramatically since 2004. The Fund increased an impressive 52 percent in 2006 and reached its goal of $1,150,000 in annual donations in fiscal year 2007. With your help, the School can continue the momentum and surpass its competition in the top twenty!
