Note from Executive Director
Dear Boston University Alumni:
I’m pleased to share the first edition of BU Forward with you. This monthly electronic newsletter for our global alumni population will replace the former BU Update. I hope that you enjoy the fresh new look with color images, articles written specifically for each issue, and other unique features to broaden the newsletter’s appeal.
Our thought was that the title BU Forward would invoke in one’s mind the theme of advancement, or moving ahead. As we move “forward” with this new publication, your continued suggestions about newsletter content and delivery will ensure that BU Forward is a tool that suits your needs. Feedback will provide us with valuable direction; so please don’t hesitate to share story ideas or suggestions about format.
As you navigate through this first edition, please take a look at our calendar of upcoming events. Our team in Development and Alumni Relations works hard to provide opportunities to keep you connected and engaged with the University. In the coming months, we’re on the go — from Dallas to Dubai, Palm Beach to Paris. BU staff or alumni volunteers as part of our global alumni club network will welcome you to a host of events — including several with President Brown. I hope you’ll join us if we’re in your area.
Finally, there are several people to acknowledge for making this e-newsletter possible. I must thank Gina Chella in the New Media department at the University for designing our new look; Amy Albrecht, director of New Media, for maintaining BU Update for the past few years; and Roger Fussa, Associate Director of Alumni Relations, who worked many long hours determining content and writing the articles you see here. Oh, and thank you to all of you who submitted suggestions for our new name. There were so many to choose from. Kudos to Jackie Iaconelli, SMG’00 (and Senior Regional Manager of Alumni Relations), for coming up with our winning entry! Please do share your thoughts and suggestions at alumni@bu.edu. It’s always good to hear from you.
Kind regards to you all from BU; and to those of you that will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week, our very best wishes for a wonderful holiday.
