Researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine have discovered a genetic variant that may predispose 10 percent of people of European or African descent to obesity. At Sargent College in the 1940s, Muriel "Midge" Appleton and her classmates lived in the same dorm. "We all became best friends," she says. Appleton recently made the largest planned gift in Sargent's history to benefit the Dean's Fund. Read More
Seeing the Extraordinary in the Ordinary: Lorraine Shemesh (CFA'71)
An acrobatic man and woman wheel and twist in a swimming pool. As the pair glide gracefully, his bathing trunks spark a reflected riot of dancing colors on the surface above, and the light hitting the rippling water throws a bright, fluid net of criss-crossing lines on her legs.
