Did You Know?
The Castle was built in 1905 as a family home for William Lindsey (1858-1922), a prominent Boston businessman who made his fortune with a patented cartridge belt used by the British Army during the Boer War. He later became a poet and playwright whose writing evinced the same fascination with the antique and the romantic that pervades the design of the building. BU acquired the Castle in 1939, and for many years it was the home of the University’s president.
