Alumni Weekend 2018 is coming up fast. In just a few short weeks Terriers from across the globe will bring their best memories back to Commonwealth Ave. with the hopes of leaving with even more. This is the time to reminisce about the good times and see all the has changed and grown at BU. – With a robust list of events to choose from, building the perfect weekend itinerary might be tricky. Fret not. We’re here to help.

Here are 10 events you won’t want to miss:

1. The Annual Sustainability & Bike Safety Festival

Location: Mash Plaza
Date & Time: Thursday, September 20 | 11:00 am – 2:30 pm

In partnership with BU Bike Safety and BU Parking & Transportation, the festival features over 45 vendors from local bike shops, area farms, student groups, departmental offices and local advocacy groups. Past vendors have included – A Better City, Landry’s Bicycles, Boston Vegetarian Society, and Zipcar. The focus of this event is to spotlight sustainable practices, encourage local sourcing and promote bicycle awareness, knowledge, safety and confidence. Download the sustainability@BU app and join the challenge to reduce your environmental footprint. Buzz your actions and you could win some great prizes throughout the day – helmets, lights, and other great biking gear!

2. Dahod Family Alumni Center Grand Open House

Location: Dahod Family Alumni Center (BU Castle)
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22 | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm / Sunday, September 21 | 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Celebrate with friends and classmates at the grand opening of the Dahod Family Alumni Center. The door is open for you to drop by for tours or just to say hello!

3. Re-U-Knighted: Young Alumni Night at Fuller’s BU Pub

Location: Fuller’s BU Pub
Date & Time: Friday, September 21 | 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Curious what the BU Pub looks like after its yearlong face-lift? We’re calling all knights and ladies of Bay State Road who wish to embark on a noble quest with good food, good beer, and even better company. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate with fellow young alumni of BU as we raise a glass to the best (newly renovated) knight life around!

4. Toast with BU

Location: Marsh Plaza
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22 | 10: 00 am – 11:30 am

5. Innovate@BU Open House

Location: Build Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center
Date & Time: Friday, September 21 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join Innovate@BU to check out BU’s new innovation initiative and the BUild Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center!

Tours of the BUild Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center will be given every half hour. After you’ve explored the space you can mingle with current ventures and startups working from the BUild Lab, including the 2018 Summer Accelerator teams. The Innovate@BU staff team will be available for any questions about the Innovate@BU initiative and ways you can get involved.

6. Charles Riverboat Cruise

Location: Deerfield Dock, Charles River Esplanade
Date & Time: Friday, September 21 | 2:30 pm

Spend your afternoon on a private boat tour with your fellow Terriers and friends. Sit back and take in the fall foliage and history of Boston as you cruise along the banks of the Charles River. Guests must be able to walk a short distance to the boat dock.

7. Expanding the Common Ground: The Howard Thurman Center

Location: Howard Thurman Center, Lower Level, GSU
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22 | 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Curious about how BU is transforming the 1927 Classical Revival building at the intersection of BU Bridge and Comm Ave? Designed by renowned architect Albert Kahn, the landmark building, which is in the National Register of Historic Places, will be the new home of the Howard Thurman Center beginning in 2019. The new space supports the expansion of the Thurman Center as BU’s interracial, inter-religious and inter-sectional hub. Enjoy a continental breakfast, reminisce and share memories about the Thurman Center.

8. Tour of the new WTBU Studios

Location: WTBU Studios
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22 | 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm

WTBU is BU’s student-run, volunteer radio station which broadcasts live 20 hours a day. Following an electrical fire in March of 2016, the WTBU studio has been rebuilt into a brand new state-of-the-art facility. Take a tour of the studio and non-air spaces, including the performance studio, newsroom, and podcast studios. You may even have the chance to go live on air!

9. A Conversation with BU Distinguished Alumni: Transforming Communities

Location: Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences and Engineering
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22 | 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Experience an intimate conversation focused on how this year’s Alumni Award winners Erika Ebbel Angle, PhD (MED’12, ’12), Bill Brooks (Questrom’86), and Binoy K Singh, MD (ENG’89) have impacted their industries and communities since leaving Boston University. The panel will be moderated by Karen Holmes Ward (COM’77), Chair of the BU Black Alumni Leadership Council.

10. BU Symphony Orchestra Lunchtime Concert

Location: Tsai Performance Center
Date & Time: Friday, September 21 | 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm

CFA’s School of Music will present the Symphonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Bramwell Tovey, Director of Orchestral Studies, in a lunchtime concert at the Tsai Performance Center on Friday, September 21 at 12:30 PM.
