621 Discussion (Graduate Students in 621 (both A1 and A2)) TBA TBA Dr. Liu TBA
*ALL sessions start on Wednesday and repeat until the following Monday.

Prerequisites:

Students are REQUIRED to have passed (C or greater) TWO semesters of organic chemistry (CH204, CH214, or CH212).

Textbooks (all are available at the BU Bookstore):

  1.   "Lehninger’s Principles of Biochemistry 8th edition” by Nelson, Cox & Hoskins is REQUIRED
  2.   “Biochemistry Laboratory Manual, 6th Edition” by Dean R. Tolan, Jose L. Medrano & Wen Yi Low is REQUIRED.
  3.   Access to the Achieve web site is REQUIRED.

    1.   There are many ways to purchase the textbook and Achieve, which includes an e-version of the textbook. But, the most convienient way is through FirstDay™. The BU Bookstore has partnered with the publisher to provide these required course materials in electronic form on the first day of class at reasonable prices. The class is automatically enrolled unless you opt out. If you don't opt out, your books will be charged to your student account. The lab manual is offered separately at the BU Bookstore (BNC) or directly from the publisher. More information about the FirstDay program is here.

If you only have available Lehninger’s Principles of Biochemistry, 7th edition, here is the syllabus from the last year it was used. McMillan published a conversion guide, including what was changed with the problems at the end of the chapter. It's a large file.

Grading:

Attendance and meeting the deadlines of all Dates listed above are required. There will be no make-up exams except as allowed by the policy outlined in the Syllabus: Policies; lab write-ups turned in late will have points deducted. See policy in the laboratory syllabi (see above).

Important Dates

Last day to drop without a 'W' Tuesday Oct. 6
Last day to withdraw with a 'W'
or apply for P/F

Biochemistry Home Page:

Here you can find the Class Rosters, Syllabi, Introduction, pre-lab Discussion slides applicable to everyone in the course, and for those in the A1 section: an outline of what was covered in lecture, class announcements, grades, etc.

Academic Conduct:

The Boston University rules and regulations described in the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Conduct Code will be strictly enforced (copies are available CAS Academic Advising Office, 100 Bay State Road, Room 401). In particular, this applies to the writing of lab reports (See Introduction). Data is shared and discussion is encouraged, but all written material, including graphs and tables, must be from your own hand.
