W. S. di Piero (author page at Amazon) has published five books of poetry—most recently, Chinese Apples: New and Selected Poems (Knopf, 2007)—and three collections of essays. His translation of This Strange Joy: Selected Poems of Sandro Penna (1982) won him the Academy of American Poets’ first Raiziss/de Palchi Book Prize. He currently lives in San Francisco and teaches English courses at Stanford. (updated 7/2010)
