The Office of International
Programs at BU offers a study abroad program in Niamey, Niger,
carried out in collaboration with the Université Abdou
Monmouni of Niamey, in which students from Boston University
and other colleges and universities, spend a semester, or
an entire academic year, in Niger studying the social, historical,
and political foundations of Sahelian culture and Niger's
efforts at educational reform, as well as French and one or
more of the languages of Niger (Hausa and Zarma are regularly

Summer Program in Dakar, Senegal
The Senegalese Studies Program offers students the opportunity to spend six weeks living and studying in Dakar, Senegal’s vibrant, coastal capital. Dakar blends modern amenities with the cultural tradition of diverse ethnic groups. Senegal, Africa’s westernmost country, has played a significant role in the politics, arts and culture of West Africa. Coursework will introduce students to Senegalese culture through its literature, film, and performing arts. Students may also choose to study Wolof, one of the principal languages spoken in Senegal. Students live with Senegalese families. Excursions complement the coursework and may include Gorée Island and Saint-Louis, among others. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn eight Boston University credits.
