One Drop Rule: Colorism and Black Consciousness

In light of the 2001 film, “ One Drop Rule” this conversation seeks to address questions such as, what is colorism, where does it comes from, who does it affect, and why a discussion of it matters. Following the screening Professor Ruha Benjamin Assistant Professor of Sociology and African American Studies (Boston University) and Professor Nuri Chandler-Smith,Professor of African American Studies( Northeastern University) along with students representing the African Diaspora will comment on the manifestations of these issues in their cultural contexts Professor Linda Heywood,Professor of African American Studies and History will moderate a group discussion following the initial responses.
